Guestbook for Barbara Burt Hawkes Showing 1 - 3 of 3 entries.

I send my sincere sympathy to Lee and his family. I met Barbara several times while serving as Lee's secretary at FmHA about 35 years ago, and she was always very kind to me. I can only imagine that it was her influence as a wonderful wife and mother that prompted Lee to make a comment to me that has influenced the rest of my life. When, after several disappointing childless years, my husband and I found ourselves expecting our first baby, I announced that I would be leaving the work force when the baby arrived. The State Director encouraged me to stay because many mothers were working successfully at that time. But Lee congratulated me and said without hesitation: "What a lucky little child to have a mother who will give up a career to stay home and raise him." That comment has influenced my family's life for all these years, and I don't think I have ever had the opportunity to thank Lee. May you be blessed and comforted in your loss.

Sincerely, Marsha Dunn

I am so sorry to hear of Barbara's passing. I am sure she has a lovely spot awaiting her in the Kingdom. I went to High School with Barbara and Lee. This brings back many fond memories of that era. I know of the sorrow this causes for those left behind. However, I hope that you will be blessed with wonderful memories of the past and opportunities in your future immortality with your family. May God bless each of you in your adjustment.

It was a stroke of luck that we were in Hawaii with the Hawkes. We enjoyed out time with them. Barbara was a great and charming lady. We loved her.
