Willard Dean Roberts

Willard Dean Roberts
A member of the "Greatest Generation" has left us, after a valiant battle against multiple health problems. Dean passed away peacefully with family members by his side on July 11, 2009.
Dean was born and raised in Salt Lake County, the only son of Willard S. and Nellie Avilda Johnson Roberts. He had two sisters. In his youth he excelled in track.
He played the clarinet and saxophone and loved big band music. He and his buddies formed a dance band and played for dances at schools, churches, and weddings.
After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the European Theater as a mortar gunner during WWII. Dean attended Los Angeles City College and graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelors degree in Business Administration. He married Gloria Furrow.
They have three children, Cyndi, Nancy, and Jeff. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Dean worked for the U.S. Government in Procurement and Purchasing until retirement from Hill Air Force Base in 1987. Dean was a survivor of the August 17, 1959 Madison Canyon Earthquake in Montana (Camp Halford/Ghost Village).
Dean enjoyed attending Jazz games, family camping trips, and his English Springer pals Rocky and Reggie. In recent years he enjoyed trips to "The Cabin in the Woods," Stonegate, Island Park, Idaho.
A special thank you to Dr. S. Jared Potter, his staff, and all staff members at Rocky MT. Care Center, Clrfd for all the kindness and compassion given to Dean and our family. All of you were awesome!
Survived by wife Gloria, children, Cynthia (Doug) Brunnette, Nancy Roberts, Jeffrey Roberts. Grandchildren, Amy (Jeff) Green, Brenden (Emily) Brunnette, Maryanne (Michael) Martin, Melinda (Lucus) McGraw, ten great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law Glenn (Hazel) Furrow, Howard (Betty) Furrow, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents and sisters.
