Barbara Burt Hawkes passed away peacefully in her home under the watchful care of her family January 29, 2007. Barbara had an infectious love for life, and if it weren’t for her, we would all have stayed home. She had a talent for sewing and quilting, and made a successful business of both. One of her quilts now hangs in the General Relief Society Building as a gift to President Hinckley from the Polynesian Cultural Center.
Her acts of service and kindness throughout her life are appreciated by her many friends and family. She diligently served in various church callings. She faithfully served a temple mission and an 18-month mission with her husband in Hawaii.
Barbara was born November 29, 1931, to Reginald and Amelia Burt in Bear River City, Utah. She married E. Lee Hawkes July 20, 1951 in the Logan Temple. They are the parents of six children: LeeAnn (Mike) Barton, Karen (Robyn) Pearson, Boyd (Jana) Hawkes, Marilyn (Jim) Snyder, Kenneth (Heidi) Hawkes, and Keith Hawkes (deceased). She has 21 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She is survived by brothers: Ted Burt, Richard (Evelyn) Burt, and Clinton (Vita) Burt, and brother-in-law Gordon (Afton) Miner.
Friends and family may call at the Russon Brothers Mortuary, Bountiful, Thursday February 1st, from 6-8pm, and Friday morning 9:30-10:30am at the Centerville South Stake Center (270 N 300 E). Funeral service 11:00am, with interment at the Brigham City Cemetery at 3:30 pm.
